My Tween wanted to make some gooey slime, so off to Pinterest we went to find the perfect slime recipe!
The most common slime recipe we found said we could use either white glue or clear glue. So off to the store I went to buy both kinds (because I like to experiment!) Here are our results from using clear glue.
Original Recipe (Not a slime consistency with clear glue.)
- 1 (5 ounce/ 147ml) bottle clear school glue
- 5 ounces hot water (Just fill glue bottle back up and give it a little shake)
- (Optional) Glitter, but our glitter didn’t stay in very well!
- (Optional) Food coloring
Mix glue and water, set aside while preparing 2nd container.
-In 2nd container combine
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 tsp Borax
(Often found in laundry isle at Walmart)
Mix the water and borax fairly well, it is OK if you have some borax particles on the bottom. Pour borax solution in to glue mixture and start stirring. You will instantly feel the slime thickening. You can also use your hands to mix.
Conclusion- It made a very pretty substance; but it was not even close to a slime consistency. You could make a ball with it and it would still look like a (deflated) ball in 5 minutes. It was still fun to cut and rip apart, but not the slime recipe we had hoped. I tried adding some water to my globs; but they didn’t change. I may try and clean my van vents (seen something similar on Pinterest!) with it before throwing it away.
I looked on Pinterest again for a different recipe with Borax and glue; but I didn’t find any new recipes. So I decided to further experiment with the recipe.
2nd attempt (Better, but breaks easily!)
- 1 (5 ounce/147ml) bottle of clear school glue
- 10 ounces hot water (fill up glue bottle twice)
- (Optional) Glitter, we added our after the recipe was made.
- (Optional) Food coloring
Mix glue and water, set aside while preparing 2nd container.
2nd container combine
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 tsp Borax
(Often found in laundry isle at Walmart)
Mix the water and borax fairly well, it is OK if you have some borax particles on the bottom. Pour borax solution in to glue mixture and start stirring. You will instantly feel the slime thickening. You can also use your hands to mix.
Conclusion-This recipe was better; but you could not stretch it very far without breaking. This would be great for a preschooler who wants “slime” but you don’t want as much of a mess to clean up.
3rd attempt (We like this recipe!)
- 1 (5 ounce/147ml) bottle of clear school glue
- 15 ounces hot water (fill up glue bottle three times)
- (Optional) Glitter, again; we added afterwards.
- (Optional) Food coloring
Mix glue and water, set aside while preparing 2nd container.
2nd container
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 tsp Borax
(Often found in laundry isle at Walmart)
Mix the water and borax fairly well, it is OK if you have some borax particles on the bottom. Pour borax solution in to glue mixture and start stirring. You will instantly feel the slime thickening. You can also use your hands to mix.
Conclusion-We really love this version! Stretchy, and with all that water; it make a large batch. I may pick up another bottle of clear glue and try this recipe a 4th time and add more water. I’ll update if I do!
